Walking by the swimming pool in the park

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

One of my son’s favorite pasttimes is to walk to the park “where the big swimming pool is” and watch kids swimming in there. He’s still a bit skittish about jumping in and swimming on his own, but he loves to watch. He sits by the pool fence that wraps around the property and just watches. Once in a while he’ll turn and tell me something that he saw another kid doing, either to tell me it was right or wrong. He notices a lot.

It’s definitely one of those wonderous moments that mothers get to enjoy. If you slow down your brain and just sit and watch and look at him in the moment it really is amazing to see this little creature opening up to see the world. Parenting is incredible.

He wants to know everything. When we’re out on walks he’ll point to things and ask me what they are and then ask a ton of questions about them. What are those mommy? Those are outdoor solar lights. They help to light the garden at night so you can see the pretty flowers and it helps people to see where they’re walking. That will either satisfy him or start another round of questions.

If he sees something that looks like a ride or something neat to go into, he’ll run over and hop right in. Even something like a gazebo. To him it’s a wonderous castle that sticks out in the middle of the yard. A fort, an escape to avoid the pirates (or to be one) depending on what he’s doing.

Childhood is amazing, I love how to turns the most mundane things into a fantasy playground and sees the world in a whole new way. It makes me stop and think and enjoy things more.

Why Does Your Dog Need a New Dog Collar?

Of course dogs need collars for safety. Without a collar you wouldn’t be able to attach a leash or identifying tags and you wouldn’t be able to restrain your dog when necessary. A dog collar also identifies your dog as owned by someone and not a stray. There are many kinds of collars for dogs to choose from, but what kind do you need? And how do you choose a good one?

Three Kinds of Collars for Dogs.

There a three basic kinds of Dog Collars to choose from. Standard collars buckle on using metal buckles, usually come in solid colors and are made of woven nylon webbing because it’s long lasting. These are utilitarian collars and are often used on hunting dogs.

Adjustable Dog Collars are very popular and have plastic buckles. They snap closed, and are very easy to put on and take off. If you choose an adjustable Dog Collar you’ll be able to find a wide variety of very cool colors and designs. They are very popular and often are available with a matching Dog Leash.

Finally you can choose a Martingale Collar which slips right over your dogs head and tightens slightly when pulled. These collars are excellent for escape artists as they are more secure on leash walks.

Choose a Well Made Collar

You can find many excellent choices on line and invite you to visit our web site at Sylvans.net. We’ve been making dog collars for over 20 years and we have an excellent reputation for quality. Regardless of where you purchase your collar, look for a buckle that is strong enough to hold your dog and be sure get a collar that is neither too loose because it might slip off, nor too tight because it might choke your dog. You should be able to insert at least two fingers between your dogs collar and his neck for a comfortable fit.
